What is Nakshtra in Panchanga

Nakshatra: From the starting point of Nirayana Zodiac if we divide the zodiac to 27 equal parts and each part will be 13 degree and 20 minutes, which is called Nakshtra. Starting first part zero degree to 13 degree 20 minutes (first Naksgtra) to last part 346 degree 40 minutes to 360 degree (last Nakshtra) (Refer Table Nakshta table below).
There are 27 nakshatras and 12 rashis. Each nakshatra has 4 charanas or padas. (Each Charan/padas is 3 degree 20 minutes) The total number of charanas are 108. Each rashi has 9 charanas (108). The following are the 27 nakshatras:
1. Ashwini 2. Bharani 3. Krittika 4. Rohini 5. Mrigashirsha 6. Aridra 7. Punarvasu 8. Pushya 9. Ashlesha 10. Magha 11. Pvorvaphalguni 12. Uttaraphalguni 13. Hasta 14. Chitra 16 Muhuria Prakarana 15. The Abhijita is the 28th nakshatra which extends
from 6°40’0″ to 10°53’20” of Makar rashi. It means that it extends from the 4th charana of uttarashadha (last 15 ghatis) to the 1st 1/15th part of Sravana (about 4 ghatis).

Classification of Nakshtra

All the Nakshtra including Abhijit are grouped in seven categories.

Druva (Fixed) :

Name: U. Falguni, U. Ashada, U. Bhadra, Rohini and Sunday 

Activity: Fixed nature work, Foundation laying for new house, Digging well, Upnayana

Char-Chala (Movable)

Name: Swati, Punarvasu, Shravan, Dhanistha, Satbhisha, and Monday

Activity: Movable activities, travel, vehicle , journey, business related with travel.

Ugra-Kroora (Agressive)

Name: P. phalguni, P. Ashada, P. Bhadra, Bharni, Magha, and Tuesday

Activity: Aggressive nature activities, killing fire, theft, poisoning, research on poisonous medicine, Surgery, use or purchase of arms.

Mishra (Mixed or Ordinary)

Name: Vishakha, Kritika

Activity: Fire works, welding melting, gas works, fabrication, preparing medicine.

Kshipra (Short and Dynamic): Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta, Abhijita

Activity: Movable works, selling of goods, learing shastras, using and purchasing ornaments, giving and taking medicine, works related to art, culture and literature.

Mridu or maitreya 

Name: Mrigashirsha, Chitra, Anuradha and Revat

Activity: Wearing of new clothes, making friends, making of ornaments, music-related activities.

Teekshna or Daruna

Name: Aridra, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha

Activity: Abhichara karma (marana, uchchatan, vidveshana), starting recitation of mantras, quarrel, training of horses and elephants, sowing seeds, starting work of laying out a garden, shanti-poushtika karmas, griha or gramapravesha, sangeet vidyarambha (starting learning of music), entertainment and wearing of new clothes and ornaments are permissible.
